Attention.
Growing up with dogs something was very clear, dogs need attention. They need you to watch them when they are young so they don't rip something up. Dogs need to be fed and walked and pet (at least you better be petting your dog!). When I got a cat I thought things would be easier than a dog, that she wouldn't need as much of my attention and for the most part that is true, she doesn't. But she does still get needy. She would impact my life less than a plant would if she never needed my attention
Pay Attention
Bitty will get my attention in multiple ways some like dogs and other not so much. One way is she will do what I call "bring a prize". This means she is in a very playful mood and wants me to interact with her and her toys. The easiest way to recognize this is she will meow and purr as she runs with a toy in her mouth. Almost like she is telling, "Hey I got this too easily can you toss it so I can hunt it down again?". This mood quickly gets my attention in a positive way. I think of it as cute and playful. Another way Bitty will get my attention, which I hate, is scratching the back of my chair. This is the worst way to get my attention, but it is THE MOST effective. She will sneak up behind me while I am working and scratch the back of my chair. I will start to feel a pressure or pull on my seat or backrest and I will immediately now she is there. I don't like when she does this so I usually raise my desk or try to distract her with something else. Attention is a powerful thing and lots of things want it. My question for you today is what are you willing to give it to? Shortform content, work, family, friends, games, books, or Bitty? Try to be more aware of where you give your attention because it will go somewhere and often times I find that what I focus on doesn't matter one bit in the bigger picture of life.
